Smooth Melting Flux

In the steelmaking process, proper management of slag is essential to maintain the quality of the steel produced. There’s a well-known saying: “Deal with slag, and slag will deal with steel.” Inappropriately handling slag can lead to detrimental changes in the composition of phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), and the presence of undesirable oxides.

In steel treatment, slags sized 10-50 mm play a crucial role in refining processes, aiding in the development of dynamic slag to enhance refining conditions. Engineered slags, predominantly based on Al2O3, are commonly used in the steel industry. These slags, derived from various natural or secondary raw materials, are influenced by the selection of organic substances, production technology, and final chemical composition. This paper presents plant results and experiences regarding the utilization of briquetted synthetic slags containing Al2O3, emphasizing their role in steel refinement processes.

Pre-Melted Calcium Aluminates

Pre-melt synthetic slag, available in sizes ranging from 1-10 mm and 10-50 mm, is highly regarded for its superior capacity to absorb acidic pollutants such as arsenic and antimony. When mixed with iron oxides, it creates a broad, uniform fluid region. Pre-melt synthetic slag serves multiple purposes in steelmaking, including deoxidization, desulfurization, and dephosphorization, contributing significantly to the refinement of steel.
